Finley Palmer

There have been a few complaints about the lack of activity on this blog of late but to be honest I am footballed out and enjoying the rest.

Pictured is my new best friend, Finley Palmer, Keyworth United’s U10 mascot. He, like most of this family, is eccentric.

Mrs P fed him this morning (a rare event indeed) but she didn’t put the lid back on the cage properly. I drew back the curtains after a beer-fuelled night in West Bridgford to be met by the sight of a stray rabbit running round my manor. He must have leapt higher than Keyworth Veteran, Gary Lund, to escape from his crib. There will be no rabbit stew or a meeting with Freddie the Fox as the safest hands in Keyworth CC returned the little fellow to his cage.

Last night was the Keyworth Dream League 15th Annual night out. We took in the 20/20 game versus Yorkshire. Over 11,000 were in attendance. The Notts’ crowd were in good voice: “you’re just a town full of water” and “you only sing when you’re swimming” were a couple of my favourites. Notts won off the last ball. We look unbeatable.

On the football front I’m still gutted that Cammell Laird missed out on promotion to the Unibond Premier League. Their best players, Ronnie Morgan and Jamie McGuire have gone to pastures new.

Remarkably Farsley Celtic will start next season in the Blue Square Conference following a thrilling 4-3 win over Hinckley at The Pirelli Stadium.

Elsewhere Tamworth were relegated, but have signed Stratford Town forward Tony Robinson who I saw and remarked on at Quorn, he is quality and it will be interesting to see if he can make the step up in grade.

Keyworth United wing wizard, Tom Alldred has signed for John Ramshaw’s Lincoln United, as have half of Nottinghamshire.

Transfer activity has been a little thin on the ground at Burton, Ilkeston and Nottingham Forest.

Thanks to all you people out there for supporting this blog, 8000 hits in a few months is encouraging to say the least. See you all on 18th July as I start my pre-season at Ilkeston and Rushden and Diamonds.

Best blog yet!

How about a weekly column from the Groudhoppers resident rabbit as he's bound to hate the Foxes?
